Are you that go-to resource among all your friends? Do you have a passion for something you want to share with the world? Do you have a business you want to attract an audience to? Or do you simply want to document your life journey to inspire others? If any of those apply to you then girlll you need a BLOG!
What is a blog?
A blog is a type of website that focuses on content (blog posts) written from a personal perspective allowing the writer to connect directly with their readers. You can start a successful blog on just about any topic imaginable.
In addition, blogs can include a “comments” section where readers can interact with the blogger. Interacting with your readers in the comments section helps to further the connection between the blogger and the reader.
This interaction is one of the main benefits of starting a blog. This connection allows you to build trust and share ideas with other like-minded people.
However, the comments section is not the only place you can interact with your readers. You can also interact on social media platforms like pinterest, instagram, twitter and facebook. Or you can interact in person with people that you meet! This is my favorite way to interact because I love to meet new people and let them know how my blog can potentially impact their life.

The purpose of my blog is to empower women to live an Elite lifestyle by focusing on a balanced mind body and soul. Through blogging, I am sharing my journey with others so they can see how practicing mindfulness can help you achieve that goal.
How to start a blog in 7 easy steps
Starting a blog can be very overwhelming. Throughout my blogging journey I’ve started, stopped, started back up, gave up and kept going. I completely understand. But let’s not let fear disguise itself as procrastination. I have 7 easy steps to finally get your blog up and running in no time.
Step 1 - Find Your Niche
Before you can even start a blog you have to decide what you want your blog’s message to be. Finding your niche is super important because it sets the foundation for everything you are trying to build. My niche is holistic health, therefore my content relates to that. Don’t know what your niche is? Take my course How To Find Your Niche to discover your true interests, skills, and passions and combine them all to find your niche.
Step 2 - Pick A Domain Name
After you have found your niche it’s time to get even more creative and decide what you will name your website. A good blog name should be descriptive so that potential readers can instantly tell what your blog is about just from the name. I purchased my domain name from GoDaddy. This site will help you choose a domain name and check if your choice is available.
Step 3 - Find A Website Host
Now that you have your blog’s niche set and your domain name picked out it’s time to get your blog online. I’ve been through a few different blog hosts like Wordpress and Wix, but Squarespace has definitely won me over. A blog host is a company that stores all of the files for your blog and delivers them to the user when they type in your blog name. You must have a blog host in order to have a blog. I like Squarespace because I feel it is the most user friendly and has beautiful pre-made templates that allow you to customize your website to your liking.
Step 4 - Select A Plan
Every blog host has a variety of plans to select. As a beginner blogger I recommend choosing a plan that is in a basic/beginner category. Until you find what you need most for your style of blogging it’s best to start basic and upgrade down the line.
Step 5 - Customize Your Site
This is the fun part! It’s time to make your blog unique and stand out to your readers. There are plenty ways to customize your blog. Originally you will select a pre-designed template. Once selected you can add different colors, fonts, images, and content. My favorite tool I use to customize my site is Canva. I use both the app and desktop site and it is my go-to! If you’re stuck on how to write your first blog post click here to download my free blog template & planning checklist.
Step 6 - Build Your Audience
Promoting your blog may be scary at first, but in order to get readers for your blog you will need spend some time promoting it. The first readers for my blog were my close family and friends. Hearing their honest feedback helped me feel comfortable sharing it with others.
One of my favorite ways to get readers to my blog is to post links on my social media accounts like Facebook and Instagram. This is great, because not only do your friends see the link, but if your friends share the link with their friends it automatically multiplies your readers. If you have created high-quality content on your blog then social media is a great way for your blog to go viral.
Once you have people reading your blog, you’ll want to make sure they come back. Email marketing allows you to create a mailing list for your readers to subscribe to by providing you their email address. Creating a mailing list helps you to keep in touch with your readers and let them know of any new content you have on your blog. This keeps people coming back to your blog, which not only gives you more readers over time, it also allows you to build a closer relationship with your readers.
Although Squarespace has their own email marketing software, I use Mailchimp. Its free & super user friendly. (My two favorite things)
Step 7 - Use To Your Benefit
After all of your work and dedication to create your successful blog it’s time to use it to your benefit. What ever you choose to use your blog for there are plenty of benefits as stated above in this post. A lot of people start a blog for an extra source of income. There are a variety of ways to make money blogging. Some of the options are selling your own products or services, getting paid to write reviews of products, selling advertising space on your site, and affiliate marketing. How will you use your new blog to your benefit?????
See below for Q&A from other beginner bloggers
Q. Once you go live with your site can you still add things like a shop option down the line?
A. Yes, you can always go back and customize or upgrade your site even after you have went live with it.
Q. Can I blog about multiple different topics?
A. It’s your blog and you can choose to blog about what ever you want, however, it’s best to have one underline topic so your readers aren’t confused on what you stand for.
Q. I am trying to decide on a domain name, but can’t think of anything that fits. Can I just use my own name?
A. Yes absolutely! I actually love seeing people do this. In my opinion, it’s easier to brand yourself with your actual name then trying to brand a business name and also have to introduce yourself as the face of the business. It all depends on what your blog is about. If your more of a lifestyle blogger I don’t see why not.
Q. What kind of blogger should I be?
A. That’s completely up to you. There are many different blog styles like lifestyle, travel, finance, fashion, food, music, fitness, diy, family etc The best way to decide what kind of blogger you should be is to Find Your Niche.
Q. When did you feel it was time to open your site to the public?
A. I was blogging for about one year before I got the courage to share my site. For an entire year I allowed my insecurities to block my blessings. I felt I needed to have everything “perfect” to let anyone see it. Sharing my blog with my close family and friends and hearing their positive feedback gave me the courage to share it to the rest of the world. Don’t be afraid to step out and show the world how great you are. You never know, there may be someone out there who is depending on you & your content!
Q. Should I give myself a deadline on my site before I introduce it?
A. Yes, deadlines are great because they hold you accountable. You can do this! Just make sure your deadline is realistic when you add in your other responsibilities.
