Hot Girl Summer is coming to an end, but don’t get too upset - She Elite Fall is right around the corner. I’m more than ready to get glam and enjoy all of the fall festivities.
Every #girlboss loves a cute outfit, a beat face and a chance to slay - but self care is more than just caring for your outer appearance. Self care has many positive-mindful effects that everyone can benefit from.
When I started investing time and money into my own self care I saw some major improvements. Here are a couple unexpected benefits I found when I started increasing my self-care:
The key to life is balance. Balance of the mind, the body and the soul. So when you look good, you feel good and you do good work. In other words, when you put effort into your appearance it makes you feel extra good about yourself. A simple glimpse in the mirror as you walk by slaying or a kind compliment from a friend admiring your glow provides a huge boost of confidence. This boost will allow you to create great things and share your positive energy with those around you.
Calms The Mind
There is nothing more relaxing than a trip to the spa, retail therapy, a peaceful meditation session, a deep yoga flow or whatever else is your cup of tea. Taking the time to slow down the busy life we live and put ourselves first is super important and really rare. I used to never reward myself with - me - time. Life was a constant battle of checking off my to-do list before something new gets added. Now what I do is make self care one of my TOP priorities on a designated day and then come back to the rest of my to do list later.
Everyone in their 20s - 30s are on a journey of discovering who they truly are - deep down inside. The question asked is “Who am I and what is my purpose?” The only way to find that answer is practicing self care. Spend time with yourself, get to know yourself, fall in love with yourself, become your own best friend. Before making self care a priority I was floating through life trying to figure things out. It wasn’t until I dedicated Sunday as my self care day and indulged in mindful practices like meditation, yoga and journalism that I started being able to answer that question.
A lot of women say they don’t make time for self care because they feel selfish for putting their self first. In their eyes - self care, self centered and selfish all ride together. If that is you I need you to hear me right now - YOU CANNOT POUR FROM AN EMPTY CUP! Taking the time out to reset from the stress and obligations of our busy lifestyle is not only good for you, but it’s good for the others around you. The more you fill your cup with love, the more love you have to give to others.
Consistent self care has the power to enhance your mood and decrease negative feelings like stress and anxiety. Once you get in-tune with yourself you will start to notice right away when your mood has changed. Most of the time a mood change is the result of your mind craving a little TLC. Self care practices like doing yoga, making sure you get good consistent sleep and spending time in sunshine increases serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter in the brain that’s linked to better mood and overall satisfaction.

Take a flower bath: I know you’ve seen these pictures on social media. These baths are incredibly stress-reducing. To top it off they make bath time smell and look beautiful. Light a candle or two, play some good music, phone on DND and lock the door. You deserve this!
Meditation: When stress piles up it causes you to shut down. Your mind is every where but where you want it to be. Even a 5 minute meditation can help to reduce your stress level and clear your mind.
Girls Night: Get cute, get the girls and create a vibe full of laughs and good energy.
